Evening in the Heart 2012 - Event Highlights
2012 Evening in the Heart of Alexandria
Thank you for your support in honoring
Patty Moran
Lyles Carr
for their outstanding contribution

Evening in the Heart of Alexandria is a tribute to all who give from their hearts to volunteer in our city. Each year Volunteer Alexandria recognizes members of our community who carry out extraordinary service, impacting the city as a whole. This year, under the chairmanship of Vice Mayor Kerry Donley and Councilman David Speck, Volunteer Alexandria gathered at the American Legion Post No. 24 by Gadsby's Tavernto honor Lyles Carr with the Marian VanLandingham Lifetime Volunteer Award and Patty Moran with the Joan White Grassroots Volunteer Award for their many years of outstanding service to the City of Alexandria.

Patty's daughter, Kate, introduced her mother reminding all of us that when we reach out our hand not only do we help someone else, but we inspire those around us to do the same. Patty's "passion for people" has touched countless lives over the years and is evident in everything from the Del Ray Turkey Trot to the Carpenter's Shelter, to the children she works with at TC Williams. Lyles Carr's activism on behalf of those in need was present even as he accepted his award, reminding those present of the continued need for volunteers in Alexandria. Food banks continue to be hard pressed to keep up with the demand, and local shelters struggle to provide enough beds as the weather turns cold. With that in mind, Lyles turned the evening over to Kerry and the live auction began. Kerry's skills as auctioneer raised additional funds for Volunteer Alexandria and we thank those who contributed. Your contributions enable Volunteer Alexandria to continue its mission to match volunteers with non-profits and city agencies who need assistance.
